SPROUTS COMMUNITY FRIDGE
Sprouts Community Fridge, Freezer, and Pantry aims to combat food insecurity on campus by providing food that is free and always accessible. Using a mix of donated, prepared, and purchased foods the community fridge is a vital resource for the 40% of students at UBC who are food insecure. This initiative also serves to tackle food waste, providing the logistical support for businesses to donate their unused or past best before-date products to be used by those who need them. Stop by the fridge today outside of Sprouts Cafe in the basement of the life building!
We appreciate all our donors immensely who make this project possible! If you are interested in becoming a donor to the Community Fridge, please reach out to info@ubcsprouts.ca or read more on our FAQ below.
THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS!
FAQ: DONORS
How are donations collected?
Sprouts will arrange all the logistics of your donation. We will arrange a pickup time and assign a volunteer to collect and take your donation to the fridge. These pickups are extremely flexible and can be tailored exactly to your needs. Most of our donors choose a re-ocurring time for pickup, as infrequently as once a month or as frequently as 5 times a week. Some of our other donors are on call, and simply text us when they have food available and we go get it. We are happy to work with you to find a schedule and logistical plan that works for you.
What are the benefits to my business?
Donating to the community fridge has several benefits! You are first helping hungry students and community members thrive through access to food on campus that cannot be found anywhere else. Second, we will take care of your food waste for you, with no delivery work on your end. Third, we have a large and loyal following at UBC and beyond who recognize and appreciate those businesses that partner with us, and support them strongly! Finally, we will promote your business on our social media, to our following of 2K+ on Instagram.
What donations are accepted?
We accept produce, unopened dry goods, pre-packaged meals, and personal hygiene products. We accept products that are past best-before dates. We will sort through donations for you and remove moldy and inedible food, so you don’t have to worry about doing this yourself.
If you have further questions, inquiries, or would like to partner with us, please email FRIDGE@ubcSprouts.ca. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
